Drowsy driverThis may sound a little crazy but it happens. We all require more sleep. Deprive yourself of sleep and your brain will go to sleep. When your brain needs sleep it will shut down resulting in sleep. An example of this may be a surprise to you. You can unknowingly fall asleep for short periods of time even with your eyes open. When driving at highway speeds, a car will travel the length of a football field in those few seconds.

Here are a few stats from the AAA Foundation for Traffic: 21 % of fatal crashes involve a drowsy driver – 1 in 5 crashes. 30% of nationwide licensed drivers report having struggled to keep their eyes open. The younger drivers – 19 to 25 – are the most likely to feel drowsy while driving. 33% reported doing so and 13% actually fell asleep.

What can we do to lower the risk while driving?

  1. Get at least 7 hours of sleep per night.
  2. Stop driving when feeling drowsy.
  3. Ask someone else to drive, take turns driving.
  4. Take a bus or taxi.

Here is another option which provides you with smart energy and will provide you with alertness for at least 5 hours. There is no crash at the end of the 5 hours. Try a free sample of Matcha-Energy to test the effectiveness. The basis of the product is matcha green tea powder from Chi-Oka tea of Japan.
